About Us

Karl is a retired firefighter from Midland TX.  AT the age of 18, hearing for the first time the story of his own father losing his parents and siblings in a house fire, Karl knew what he was going to do and if it meant he saved just 1 person then he did his job.  Over the course of a 30 year career, Karl did save many lives and positively impacted many others and has the utmost respect from the many people he worked with over the years.  One way Karl found decompression time was hunting.  This became something he enjoyed also passing down to his own children and his step children.  He will deny it if you ask but Karl is a gifted teacher and leader, so it is no surprise that he continued this talent and passion upon his retirement , giving to others in Texas and New Mexico.  In 2019, The opportunity to guide Elk hunts with Fishtail Ranch in Chama NM brought him not only peace but renewed purpose.  Fishtail Ranch has been a local supporter of FAMS outdoors mission with  local archery and hunting opportunities for youth and first responders.   When home in North Padre Island you will find Karl on the water with FishSwirl and other guides giving time for others to make memories as he did with his children, step children and brothers he served with.  Karl's why for FAMS Outdoors, there is peace and there is connection in being in God's creation and that is good for the mind, body and soul which makes me a stronger man, husband and father.  Life does not discriminate and helping individuals find hope in this world, and connection for community and for families to come together, this makes a stronger and brighter future.
