Here’s an update on my hunt that I was gifted by Amy and Karl Staggs and FAMS.
After the hunt I was hit with that famous buck fever shake. It lasted for awhile and I had to laugh about it a lot. Had me a few beers with the owners along with my Son, James, who was along with me.
Miles of stalking, many hills were glassed and had one small 3 point bull that seemed to enjoy spoiling a good shot.
I can’t say enough about my guide, Nick Sanchez, co-owner of the ranch. Such great hospitality,every day of my hunt. I’d gladly return for another hunt.
On that last day, We were stalking this bull and he got the slip on us by making his way around the hill we were walking. Not one snap,no brush heard. We kept going around and made the top of the hill, Nick said “STOP” there he is! I looked hard and Nick said “700 yds.” My old Savage might not have done it so Nick told me to use his. First left handed rifle I’d ever shot. He said, “Don’t worry, that’s nothing!”
Set on the sticks, got focused in and just a slight squeeze and the world went still. I hear this wooomf! and a whoosh! and see that big bull buck and tuck up. We put another shot in him and that bull was down! This was my first bull hunt in my 50 years of hunting.
God blessed us all that day and I’m still so Thankful.
